The SemTech 2010 Conference has dedicated an entire track to focus on semantics in pharmaceutical and healthcare services. This track is scheduled for June 23 – 25, 2010 and will provide a forum where healthcare professionals can learn about the advances being made with semantic technologies to help organize, interpret, and efficiently utilize medical information from the research lab to integrated medical records, and from hospital operations, all the way through to international disaster and public health response. During the SemTech 2010 Healthcare sessions, healthcare professionals will learn about current applications of semantics in the health delivery system in the US and Europe. Advantages include the potential overall cost reduction and increased effectiveness of the healthcare system created by linked data and informatics; the implementation of semantic analytics in ‘horizon scanning’–the systematic monitoring of potential future trends as a way to limit costs and increase effectiveness as demonstrated by the United Kingdom’s National Health Service; and the ways in which healthcare companies are using semantic technologies to comprehensively gather data, improve internal accounting and budgeting, and help eliminate error-prone manual processes.
With data pouring in from so many information sources, today’s healthcare industry struggles to efficiently and effectively process, interpret, represent, and access its data. SemTech 2010 will address these issues and offer solutions for the future.
