Australian motor suppliers CMG specialise in customising standard products to suit customer requirements, including special paint finishes and high spec motors for use in hazardous locations. Established in 1948 by Chaim ‘Mietek’ Gringlas, who initially manufactured and repaired electric motors as a sole venture, CMG actually began in Chaims’ garage.

His house soon became a stockroom, and with the garage in use too, his current premises were deemed too small accommodate this growing business. In 1955, CMG took up residence in a factory in Melbourne, employing a close knit team of eight staff. This was soon to increase, and by 1962 a second factory had been opened to cope with CMG’s continuous expansion.

Chaim Meitek Gringlas’ son, Jack, after graduating from Melbourne University with a Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering in 1975, joined the company and became the second General Manager in CMG’s 60 year history in 1984, following in his father’s footsteps by pursuing an unrivalled service, extensive product range and continuous expansion for the business.

From such a humble beginning in a domestic garage space, CMG now trades internationally, with warehouse and sales offices in New Zealand, Singapore, China, Malaysia, the Middle East and South Africa supplying cast iron motors, aluminium motors, EExd Atex electric motors, motor gearboxes and HMI Motor Systems.

In the UK, Motors and Drives are a company who too has been going from strength to strength, continually updating their product range to stay ahead of competition whilst still supplying an all-inclusive service.

Employing factory trained Servo engineers and computerised diagnostic test equipment ensures that the company can provide a comprehensive repair service, which has become a core element of the business. The engineers possess the qualifications to repair all major brands of servo, including Siemens, Fanuc, ABB, Bosch, Getty’s, Yaskawa, Indramat, Allen Bradley, SEM and Parvex.

Customers to the website can expect to see an extensive product range, of both new and used drives and controls, which can be courier delivered to their premises next day, including standard single phase motors, inverter drives, servo motors, PLC systems, PLC Version Control software and complex servo drive systems. These products are then used in a wide range of industries, including HVAC (air management), shot blasting and catering.

Motors and Drives also encourage customers to get in contact to advise on the most suitable products for each individual project, as providing in-depth support has seen the company grow from strength to strength as a result.

Managing Director of CMG, Dave Lonsdale, said: ‘Motors and Drives have really made an excellent name for themselves in the motor and drive industry. After meeting with them and learning of their current progress and future purposes, it was an obvious choice to join forces. Their well established customer base coupled with our vast range of products will ensure everyone’s needs are catered for.’

Managing Director of Motors and Drives Neil Gallant said: ‘We are really excited about joining forces with CMG. We are confident that our reputation and customer base will be perfectly complimented by the solid and reliable products CMG supply. Working in harmony with a manufacturer with such a good reputation inspires confidence in us and this will reflect well to our customers and their needs.’
