Sebastopol, CA (PRWEB) March 8, 2011

On April 12, 2011, the first-ever professional web design conference for the north San Francisco Bay Area will be held in Rohnert Park, California. This one-day event addresses the pressing need for web designers and developers to keep up with rapidly changing web technologies, without having to travel to San Francisco or beyond.

The event, which will be held at the Sonoma Mountain Village Event Center in Rohnert Park, is being organized by premier sponsor Webvanta, a Sebastopol-based company that provides technology services and a hosted CMS for web designers and agencies.

Additional sponsors include O’Reilly Media; Art Institute of California – Sacramento; Sonoma Mountain Business Cluster; and Engine Yard.

Conference registration is open now at the North Bay Web Conference site. Registration for the one-day conference is only $ 99, including breakfast, breaks, and lunch.

Conference director Michael Slater commented, “There are many top-notch web designers in the North Bay, yet there have been no sizable web gatherings beyond San Francisco. We thought it was time designers in Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties had their own local conference.”

Slater has many years of experience producing high-quality conferences, as program director for the Microprocessor Forum for more than a decade.

The conference will kick off with keynote talks from Michael Slater, CEO of Webvanta, on “The State of the Web”, and Bill Mead, lead instructor of web design at the Art Institute of California, on “Educating the Next Generation of Web Designers”.

Web technologies are evolving rapidly, and it is a continual challenge for designers to keep up so they can design the best sites for their clients. The program includes talks on the latest generation of the core web technologies — HTML5 and CSS3 — as well as on jQuery, the most popular JavaScript framework.

Mobile devices are becoming an important part of the web landscape, and designing sites for them adds yet another challenge for web designers. Jared White of Siteshine will present “From Clicks to Gestures: Developing for a Mobile, Touch-based World” to help designers make the transition to supporting mobile devices.

The program will continue with presentations on four of the major content management systems: WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, and Webvanta. These presentations will help designers put each of these leading CMS systems in perspective and choose the one that best fits their projects.

The day concludes with a focus on content, which is — or, at least, should be — the heart of every website. All too often, content development is neglected, and site pages are built in a manual way. The talks will address both content strategy and the technology for implementing it.
