Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) July 16, 2012

Spanky Media, a leading Perth web development company, has explained how retailers and businesses can benefit from the upsurge of smartphone usage in Australia. This statement from the company stems from a recent Google study showing that more than half of Australians 52% are now using smartphones not only for making and receiving calls, but as an important shopping tool as well.

In a separate report, it was shown that the current years percentage for smartphone users in the country is a significant increase from the 37% figure from last year. In addition, it was shown that 65% of smartphone owners use their mobile devices daily to surf the Internet, while 94% of Aussies use their smartphones to search for products and services, with 28% of them have actually made purchases through this platform.

Google has described Australias mobile users to be more sophisticated compared to those from the UK and US, implying that Aussies are more knowledgeable in using their smartphones compared to their counterparts. And according to experts, this is something that businesses and companies must take into account.

Unfortunately, Googles report also showed that 79% of Australian businesses still do not have websites optimised for mobile use, despite a figure showing that 61% of users will most probably not return to a particular website if they encountered difficulties accessing it through their mobile devices.

Jason Pellegrino, Google Australias Head of Mobile Ads, in explaining the importance of businesses going mobile said, The mobile revolution isnt coming its already happened. Mobile is no longer optional: businesses need to develop a mobile strategy now, or risk getting left behind.

In response, industry experts are suggesting that businesses must start making their websites mobile-friendly in order to cater to the growing market.

Currently, some companies have already benefited from having efficient mobile campaigns. One of them is Webjet, an online travel company, which had a 27% increase in bookings, particularly from mobile device users. An online learning company, Open Colleges, also confirmed that around a third of its enquiries and web traffic are coming from its mobile site.

In light of the increasing popularity of smartphones in the country, experts believe that retailers and businesses must now improve on their mobile campaigns or risk losing sales and clients in the end.

Pellegrino said, Businesses should complement their online and offline ad campaigns with mobile ads to reach their target audience on all screens their audience is looking at.

The year of mobile has already happened. If mobile strategy isnt being considered by the CEO or at board level, youre already behind the 8-ball, he added.

Indeed, creating mobile-friendly websites should be seriously considered by businesses, whether large or small. They just need to find the correct methods and the right company to make this possible.
