The first, CardMunch, is a new app for the iPhone. It can convert traditional paper business cards into digital contacts by scanning text from photographs of business cards taken on the users phone. Hovering the phone over a business card, the app detects when the card is in range. It even features a Multishot mode to submit a stack of cards en masse. This gives users a detailed background on the new contact, which a paper business card obviously cannot do.
Bump, a new app for the iPhone and Android phones, allows users to exchange contact information by bumping their phones together. The app uses the phones’ sensors to “feel” the bump, retrieves the phones contact profiles and exchanges them. The app also makes photo-sharing as simple as bumping the two phones together. Even better, users can also bump photos to any computer. Darrohn says that this makes bumping into strangers a little less awkward, and a little more effective.
Social media has revolutionized the way businesses advertise and network, comments Darrohn. This goes for business cards as well. People have thrown away the cumbersome Rolodex and digitalized their biz contacts.
